The new and stricter 1999 rules for superannuation state that members of super funds are denied access to their future employer and member contributions, as well as fund earnings, until retirement. Investors should therefore reappraise their superannuation investment strategies and may find it necessary to take some of their money out of the fund system before retiring to be more tax-effective.
