Zemex to bid for Inmet

Article Abstract:

Zemex Corp., a producer of industrial minerals based in Toronto, Ontario, has revealed an ambitious plan for an unsolicited C$517-million takeover attempt for Inmet Mining Corp., a bigger company. The announcement from Zemex says it will make a cash and stock offer of C$5 a share for Inmet. However, the offer will depend on Inmet's closing of its recently revealed sale of its 50% stake in the Antamina copper project in Peru. The offer is around 15% higher than the C$4.40-per-share price level in which Inmet's stock closed in the Toronto Stock Exchange a day earlier.
