Compensating wages, value of a statistical life, and inter-industry differentials
Article Abstract:
Hazardous work compensation for different industries are statistically evaluated to assess the inter-industry differentials hypothesis. To this end, the death rates of the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety were integrated into three national probability samples. The results, which supports the hypothesis, revealed the inadequacy of existing methods for estimating statistical life.

People witnessing or even hearing about disasters may suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD is much more pervasive and disabling than simple compassion for the disaster victims. This and other PTSD symptoms are discussed, as well as care and treatment.
