The benefits of holding private heath insurance depends upon personal circumstances and the amount of risk a person is willing to take. One financial model compares the probability of hospitalization and the amount saved by investing the money that would have gone into an insurance fund. By self-insuring medical cost are lower because you are cutting out the insurers' administration overhead and profits.

Fatherhood's late starters

Article Abstract:

Men who become fathers later in life face a different set of financial challenges. Older fathers must face the costly teenage years as their working lives are coming to a close. If a man chooses to have children later in life he should build up a solid portfolio early in his life, or he must begin early in his child's life. Older fathers may also have to accept more risk in their investments.

Death, taxes and the family farm: sucession planning is all too often avoided in farming families, but could save a lot of bitterness - and money

Article Abstract:

Succession and inheritance plans are not often established by family farmers. This lack of planning can lead to disputes and to high inheritance taxes. The farm family should work out an equitable plan of succession among those who want to continue farming and to create trusts to protect assets from taxation.
