Motion study for the blinded: a review of the Gilbreths' work with the visually handicapped

Article Abstract:

Frank and Lillian Gilbreth's work in helping the blind handicapped veterans become useful workers had much to do with Gilbreth's study of motion. The rehabilitation ideas for the blind veterans in turn helped promote efficiency in seeing workers. Gilbreths found that the blind workers could be trained to handle such occupations as core making, woodworking and typing, as opposed to the traditional occupations suffered by the blind of previous jobs like basket making. These new occupations were responsible for generating higher incomes for the blind veterans, in some case higher than before they became visually impaired, and a higher self esteem. The jobs were located throughout the US and the changes in machinery to enable the blind to perform the tasks handle these positions were minimal.

I accuse the SFO gunslingers

Article Abstract:

The Serious Fraud Office (SFO,) which began in 1988, has not yet developed its own standards or career structure. When fraud involves abuse of City practices the SFO must establish the defendants' intentions. In this area SFO activities are questionable and lack consistency. A motive is attributed to the defendant and presented in court so the defence has to prove a negative. The SFO fails to supply all its documentary evidence to the defence.
