Alexander von Humbolt's amerikanisches Reisewerk: ethnographie und kulturkritik um 1800

Article Abstract:

Alexander von Humboldt's language on paleobotany and plant distribution was detached and logical. The vocabulary in his American ethnic studies became increasingly poetic. Humboldt described American natives slowly passing from a primitive state to a sense of liberty and contentment. This view was shared by Johann Schiller, who believed poetic language would encourage their readers' esthetic education. The article text is in German.
