Ramifications of the reelection of the Howard Government are discussed. Prime Minister John Howard seems to wish to be remembered for reforms Superannuation reform should be undertaken. Business policy should be reformed to adequately reflect the globalized economy. Tax policies should be reviewed and changed. Several companies are evaluated for investment. Singapore Telecom is rated sell, as are Southcorp and Bank of Queensland. Coca-Cola Amatil gets a buy along with Mayne Nickless and Woodside Petroleum.

Art for super fund's sake

Article Abstract:

A growing number of Australians are investing in art for their do-it-yourself (DIY) superannuation (retirement) funds. Such investments are suitable for a speculative part of a portfolio, if it is a very large one, according to John Albrecht, managing director, Kozminsky Galleries, Melbourne. Valuations and advice from galleries or auction houses would be needed and purchases should be insured. Technicalities are explained.

Not so super changes

Article Abstract:

The federal government of Australia seems to be opposed to removing one, and certainly two, of the taxes of the superannuation system. The superannuation industry has long hoped that the three-tiered tax structure would be simplified. Tax proposals are reviewed. Tables give key 12/01 dates, extensive data on mortgage products and bond yields and on listed property trusts.
