Retirement funding, an avoidable crisis

Article Abstract:

Australian governments have continually failed to address the future retirement benefits of senior citizens. In Jun 1997 there is only half of the $600 billion promised in the superannuation fund. Australians have been systematically removed from qualifying for social security continuously restructuring income and asset requirements. The longer it takes for the problem to be address the more it will cost due to compounding interest rates.

Article Abstract:

Choosing the right plan when investing in new superannuation, or retirement, funds in Australia may be difficult, but the size of the account is a major factor in the need to diversify. Investors must evaluate different funds with many options from many managers. Fees and capital security are important to people just joining a superannuation fund, but performance becomes important in time.

The Australian's governments 1997-98 budget is likely to have tax concessions for investments in savings plans. There is an attempt by the government to improve national savings, the concessions can replace the 3% co-contribution for low income earnings, it does not leave superannuation as the only preferred savings vehicle.
