Ten tips for small business

Small businesses in Australia have various ways to cut down on their taxes while staying within new tax rules, among them reviewing shareholder loans, and writing offsetting capital gains and losses. According to Greg Hayes of the Australian Society of CPAs and senior partner for accounting firm Hayes Knight, private companies should be careful to have a management plan in place where there are any debit loan accounts. The tax office is especially interested in auditing service companies and one-person companies.

Tips on taxes: how to lighten the load

It is important to consider tax implications early in the year and plan accordingly. The tax implications of investments should be considered before they are made. Avoid throwing receipts into a shoebox during the year. Paperwork listing receipts, invoices and statements should be categorized all through the year. Pre-payment of taxes to avoid a large single bill is always an option to consider.

Land taxes

Article Abstract:

The new rules lowering taxes on land unless the investor's own land in New South Wales that is valued at Australian dollar $330,000 is examined. The implications of these new rules are discussed. Similar proposals from other areas of Australia are also examined.
