To counteroffer or not to counteroffer

Article Abstract:

Management may be tempted to make a counteroffer when employees announce their intention to transfer to another company that has made a job offer. Making a counteroffer is not always successful because departing employees may be dissatisfied not with their compensation but with other aspects of the job. Also, a counteroffer that does not match or exceed the proposed salary of the other company may actually backfire. Lastly, morale of the workforce may be undermined when news of the counteroffer leaks out. Given these risks, management should carefully determine if the departing employees are truly valuable and deserve a counteroffer.

The cost of flexibility

Article Abstract:

All-in-one mortgage accounts available in Australia appeal to those who want to cut years off terms of mortgages. Such accounts are called 'equity home loans' or 'account-based mortgages' and allow a borrower to put home loan, checking and savings accounts, and salary into one account. Income can be offset directly against debt to reduce interest, repaying loans faster because interest rates are calculated daily. Usually higher interest rates are incurred than with other debt, and consumers are confused, according to Ursula Bonzol, managing director, Money Skills, investment advisors.
