The package deal problem

The mergers and takeovers in the listed property trust sector is discussed as this may provide higher returns but it also comes with an element of higher risk. Diversification is better provided if people are allowed a choice of picking a sector, as listed property trust sectors are generally low risk, stable investments with returns mainly from the rentals.

GPT defends Europe venture

A profile of Australia based GPT, a listed property group, is presented. The performance of the trust is analyzed. GPT is selling 50% of its stake in shopping centers to Westfield. GPT is also entering into joint ventures in Germany and Czech Republic. The object is to improve the earnings of the trust.
