A question of taste?

Article Abstract:

Nadagascar has lost its dominance of the global vanilla market to new producers and artificial substitutes. Madagascar has surpassed Mexico as the top producer after hand-pollination techniques were developed in 1841. However, its share of the market fell from 75% to 25% between 1970 and 1996 as a result of its protective pricing policy. The low price of synthetic substitutes and the development of bio-engineered vanilla threaten the long-term prosperity of vanilla growers.

A question of quality

Article Abstract:

Measures of the quality of life are changing the traditional view of regional economic disparities in Great Britain. The previously held theory of a 'North/South Divide' to describe standards of living is giving way to the study of smaller local regions. Factors beyond mere cost of living are also being used to gauge regional differences such as availability of health care and education and the prevalence of crime and pollution.

Regions don't matter?

Article Abstract:

The April 1992 general election in England was a surprise to members of the Labour Party who expected that Labour's move towards centrist policies and the effects of the recession would attract more voters. However, demographic analysis indicates that the changes in class structure, increases in home ownership and consumption of privately produced services point toward continued support for the Conservative Party.
