Hyperbolic discounting and time inconsistency in native-exotic species conflict

Article Abstract:

The study explores whether applying hyperbolic discounting rather than the standard presumption of constant discounting matters for a natural resource policy question. The time inconsistency that occurs with hyperbolic discounting and its likelihood is directly related to the degree of separation between the policy results form constant discounting and hyperbolic discounting.

The types of auction mechanisms are used to ascertain the effect of fundamental endowment (which exists when people offer to sell a commonly available good in their possession at a substantially higher rate than they will pay for the identical good not in their possession), are discussed.

Consistent estimation of the value of statistical life

Individual's willingness to pay in lessening mortality risk is assessed using general method of moments. This method derives a consistent estimation of value of statistical life.
