What's the holding company holding?

Article Abstract:

Statement 133 issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) aims to shed light on a utility holding company's subsidiaries to give investors a clearer picture of the depth and extent of changes in the industry. Due to FASB 133, it was shown that 65 of the 88 investor-owned electric utilities in the US had significant changes in sources of revenue and assets for the years 1996 and 1998. Among the changes noted are the continued consolidation of gas and electric companies and investments of utilities in real estate, telecommunications and home security.
