New rule on cooling water intake structures

Article Abstract:

A rule is proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of designing a cooling water intake structure that will help to minimize the harm to aquatic organisms trapped in existing powerplant cooling water intake system. The rule applies to use a cooling water intake structures that draws 50 million gallons of water per day instead of 200 billion gallons to reduce the percentage of mortality of aquatic organisms.

Clearing the way

Article Abstract:

A memorandum of agreement focusing on approval of right-of-way vegetation management was signed by five federal departments and representatives from the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Fish and Wildlife Service, National Park Service and the Environmental Protection Agency. Continuous efforts to make further agreements in line with wildlife protection are also discussed.

Protecting the Mexican spotted owl

Article Abstract:

The article discusses public utilities' strict compliance in performing vegetation management so as not to affect endangered species particularly the Mexican spotted owl. Ensuring that right-of-way is properly cleared helps reduce risk to wildlife from electricity and also provides a firebreak.
