Reliability tradeoffs

Article Abstract:

The utilities organizations are not in the favor of making huge investments in the power delivery systems as it has a lot of regulatory pressure and it is also expensive. However, the cost involved in improving or maintaining the system to have greater reliability in all situations is quite a lot which in turn the customers are not ready to accept.

Article Abstract:

Rating agencies have refined their methodologies in categorizing utilities for ratings purpose. Three basic classes have evolved under which the utilities fall, namely, Integrated/ regulated utilities, integrated/ diversified utilities and quasi-merchant utilities. An evaluation of the three categories is presented.
