Race against time

Article Abstract:

Britain has a better track record than France or Germany in its handling of race relations. The Race Relations Act of 1976 ensured equal treatment of ethnic minorities by making discrimination in the job market, education and housing illegal. However, the recent increase in incidents of racial violence suggests a climate of racial injustice. Law enforcement officials are worried about the influence of the race riots in Germany and France. Efforts should be made to retain the spirit of harmony and avoid an atmosphere of racial hostility.

Contesting the Euro vision

Article Abstract:

The European Community is struggling to make itself a reality and appears to be succeeding although more slowly than expected. Some of the difficulties in convincing Europe's people that federation is beneficial include unemployment caused by the recession that has hurt many of the industrialized economies, nationalism and currency speculation that has driven the British pound and the Italian Lire from the Exchange Rate Mechanism.
