Definitions and debate

Article Abstract:

Euthanasia has come to mean death induced on purpose as an act of mercy for the dying person, with the concept of euthanasia involving moral, ethical and legal debate over the sanctity of life. Death can be postponed through drug treatment, even if the condition cannot be cured, and some supporters of voluntary euthanasia believe patients should have the right to a peaceful and immediate death if their illness is incurable and intolerable. The history and definitions of euthansia are examined.

The resistant rock

Article Abstract:

The nearest of the English Channel Islands to France, Sark is resisting pressure from Brussels to join the European Union. For four centuries, Sark has maintained self-rule, surviving German occupation and other threats. Its hereditary feudal rulers have left the stable population of 500 satisfied with Sark's unique flavor of independence. Tourism is Sark's main source of income. Isolated by a rocky coastline and rough seas, Sark nevertheless attracts up to 1,000 visitors daily.
