GERMANY: MERCK CLOSES THIOGLYCOL ACID FACILITY

Article Abstract:

Merck KGaA, which is concentrating on high-yield segments of the specialist chemicals market, is to close its thioglycol acid facility in Gernsheim. The company used to produce annually about 4,000 tonnes of thioglycol acid for technical applications such as PVC stabilisers, generating a turnover of about DM 20mn.

GERMANY: TARTARIC ACID FROM LEUNA

Article Abstract:

Spezial Chemie Leuna GmbH & Co KG has started up Germany's first tartaric acid plant in Leuna. The plant is based on a new closed-cycle technology developed in collaboration with Lurgi. Beside tartaric acid for applications such as construction, pharmaceuticals and foodstuffs, the plant produces also potassium sulphate fertiliser and yeast for animal feed.

GERMANY: AKZO NOBEL TENSIDES TO HANSA CHEMIE

In Germany, Akzo Nobel Chemicals GmbH of Duren has sold its activities relating to anionic washing-active agents to Hansa Chemie AG of Duisburg. The latter produces such agents for the detergents and cosmetics industries as well as petrochemical products and specialist chemicals.
