GERMANY: UNCERTAINTY ABOUT PIRNA PULP PROJECT

Article Abstract:

The DM 700mn sulphate pulp mill planned by a group of investors in east German Pirna would be the second kraft pulp mill in central Europe. Although the European Union has approved subsidiaries of DM 200mn for the project, the realisation is still uncertain. The site has to be investigated before a final decision is taken. The project is reportedly backed by five investors, who are to team up with a know-how supplier. The mill would produce sulphate pulp out of deciduous and coniferous timber.

GERMANY: NEW POWER PLANT FOR WACKER-CHEMIE

Article Abstract:

Fortum Kraftwerk Burghausen GmbH is to build a 120-MW gas turbine power station at the site of Wacker-Chemie GmbH in Burghausen by mid-2001. The DM 200mn power station will cover the entire electricity requirement of the chemicals plant.
