Article Abstract:

Negotiations between Japanese and US cosmetic industry trade groups and the EU have progressed towards harmonization of regulatory issues. They will take on joint responsibility to ensure that consumers have safe and effective products. Pre-market approval requirements will be replaced with product notification, market or importer notification, restricted positive lists, restricted and uniform product labelling and a cosmetic definition based on an EU model.

ICI Acquires Unilever's Speciality Chemicals Business

Unilever has sold its speciality chemicals division to Imperial Chemical Industries PLC in a deal that has been valued at $8 billion. The deal, which includes Unilever's Quest, National Starch, Crosfield and Unichema businesses, must be approved by regulators and shareholders.
