Retailers call for limited SKUs, reduced treatment prices

Article Abstract:

Drugstore and department store cosmetics and skin preparations buyers think there are too many lines available and too many products per line. Women today have little time to select among so many offerings, and less time to use so many products as part of their daily regimen. Retail outlets are cutting back on cosmeticians, and managers say that marketers should provide more training for salespeople.

According to a survey, women's fragrances are selling as well as last year. Eau de toilettes and cologne sprays continue to be the most frequently purchased forms. Most of the respondents agreed that the bestsellers' success is because they are well positioned and carry attractive price points.

Black women are in need of cosmetics geared to their unique features of skin. They no longer have to put up with cosmetics developed for Caucasian skin. The potential market in Black cosmetics is vast. The Black woman wants to be judged by beauty standards natural to her heritage.
