US: KNOLL TO PAY DAMAGES
Article Abstract:
Knoll Pharmaceuticals Co, a subsidiary of BASF, is to pay damages to users of the thyroid pharmaceutical Synthroid in the US. The 778,000 patients that have been treated with the pharmaceutical will get compensations of US$ 74 to US$ 111. The total compensation amounts to US$ 137mn. Knoll had been accused of withholding a study that suggested that generic drugs were as effective as Synthroid.

In the next two years, Bayer of Germany and Myriad Genetics Inc. of Salt Lake City, Utah, are to cooperate in research into the treatment of obesity. The two companies have already been cooperating in research into senile dementia. The project has delivered six drug targets.

Knoll AG, a subsidiary of BASF, has signed an agreement with the US company Myogen Inc. of Denver, Colorado, on the development of a cardiac product. The deal involves BSF 208075, a potential type A selective endothelin receptor antagonist (ETRA).
