A Kantian theory of capitalism

Article Abstract:

A Kantian theory of capitalism composed of three formulations of Emmanuel Kant's categorical imperative is proposed. This theory provides insights and principles which can be applied to describe a moral vision of the corporation. The first formulation offers a theory of moral permissibility for market relations. Respect for persons belongs to the second formulation, which offers the term for a robust theory of moral responsibility in personal market relations. The third formulation, which is called moral community formulation, offers the basis for a moral business institution.

Moral hazards on the road to the "virtual" corporation

Article Abstract:

The emergence of virtual corporations in the 1990s provides a paradoxical setting for business ethics. While these organizations emphasize trusting relationships in that each member company relies on another company for certain vital functions, their temporary nature fosters an environment that discourages the flourishing of trust. In the absence of means of controlling risks engendered by this system, parties involved in virtual corporations merely take the chance that the potential advantages of the relationship would outweigh possible disadvantages.
