Man and beast

Article Abstract:

The vast majority of people in the UK remain unaware of the extremely cruel treatment which most farm animals suffer. Up to a quarter of cattle are fed illegal and extremely dangerous drugs in order to boost production, for example, while 4 million lambs a year die very soon after birth from exposure and disease. The meat industry will have to work even harder to conceal its activities from the general public as it makes increasing use of genetic engineering techniques.

A communitarian note on stakeholder theory

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the legitimization of stakeholding in place of a shareholder approach towards corporate governance is conducted. The argument holds that corporate governance should be controlled by all stakeholder groups or investors in the corporation and not just by shareholders. However, despite fair claims to a voice in the governance of a corporation, practising such claims can have serious and damaging impact on the economy and the common good.

Article Abstract:

The story behind the emergence of the statue described in 'The Burghers of Calais' by Auguste Rodin that was originally commissioned by the city of Calais to celebrate a local hero is described.
