Expert systems as general-use advisory tools: an examination of moral responsibility

Article Abstract:

The ethical issues involved in the design, development, utilization and maintenance of computer expert systems (ESs) are discussed. The expert system is a user-provided information system and suggests a solution on the account of its system expertise. The persons involved in the development of ESs are the manager, expert, ES designer, knowledge engineer, ES implementer and maintainer and user. The ethical concerns over ESs include the moral responsibilities of the persons involved their development. The developers must know the potential errors arising from the development and use of ES.

An empirical examination of the relationship between corporate social responsiveness and extent of disclosure

Article Abstract:

The degree of corporate social responsiveness (CSR) was found to be related to a company's willingness to reveal financial data after analyzing CSR indicators such as charitable donations, number of women executives, number of minority executives, disclosure of social programs, Sullivan Principle ratings and donations to political action committees. Therefore, the ethical principles of executives determine many apparently unrelated company decisions.

Ethics and disclosure in the savings and loan industry

Article Abstract:

The ethical behavior of managers in the savings and loan (S&L) industry was examined. It was found that fraud was highly extensive in S&L companies wherein managers were less ethical in their disclosure of financial statements. Such finding confirms the well-accepted notion that unethical behavior has contributed greatly to the prevailing crisis in the S&L industry.
