Afghanistan again: Prospects for security and stability

Article Abstract:

The riots in Kabul in May 2006 prompted a public opinion that Afghanistan was used as the 21st century's version of the great game, which also resulted in abhorrence of the US-led coalition forces, however, actions that can be taken to improve security and stability in the region are discussed. Slow reform and reconstruction of the Afghan National Army, National Police and the judicial system needs to be quickened and the US' contribution of resources to establish a combined Afghan National Police and Border Police force of 62,000 is a step in the right direction.
