Aid organizations in Afghanistan: Taking aim at aid

Article Abstract:

Aid workers in Afghanistan are threatened by Taliban elements because they are not seen as impartial players by powerbrokers and insurgents. The Taliban insurgents believe that the aid workers tempt men to leave their militia for a life without the gun or because instability best suits illicit opium production from which they gain revenue.

Struggle for rights

Article Abstract:

The areas of Afghanistan most affected by Taliban and insurgent activity continue to be particularly hostile to women's rights. The insecurity and attacks against women have prevented many aid projects from going ahead for their betterment in the south and southeast of Afghanistan.

Article Abstract:

Cross-border tribal loyalties and control of remote areas in Pakistan are considered to be decisive. Pakistan has also played an important part in operations in Afghanistan and hunting down and capturing Al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives taking sanctuary on its territory.
