At one year, CWC progress tempered by limited transparency

Article Abstract:

The progress achieved by the Chemical Weapons Convention in documenting existing chemical weapons (CW) in countries bound to its principles and objectives is hampered by the convention's limited transparency and continued resistance of suspected CW countries. Roughly three-fourths of the countries which have signed the treaty, have submitted declarations on their CW stockpiles, CW-related facilities and other CW-related information. Also, suspected CW countries such as Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Syria and North Korea have explicitly ignored the treaty.
