Black History Month with a rich history

Article Abstract:

Multiculturalism will enable school curricula to go beyond the Black History Month and the superficial focus on history that it entails. Black history should be included in the curriculum like other subjects, and not emphasized during Black History Month and then ignored. Technological revolution has shortened the boundaries between countries, and ignoring other histories will further the divisions in society. The introduction of multiculturalism into various fields, such as social studies and literature, will enrich the principle of inclusiveness.

Independent black schools are growing in number and are attracting a great deal of public attention. They are not burdened by a bureaucracy and are able to use innovative teaching methods and pick the latest from the field to enhance their students' learning experiences. The relatively small class sizes provide a better learning environment. Independent blacks schools also have a higher percentage of students who go on to college after graduation.
