Can the state create cooperation?: problems of reforming the labor supply in France

Article Abstract:

This article discusses vocational education and training in France, as a government reform project to improve the economy. The author asserts that successful implementation of these reforms relies on cooperation between the state and employment associations in overcoming uncertainty about their reciprocal relationship.

Does labor matter? Institutions, labor unions and pension reform in France and the United States

Article Abstract:

This article examines the role of labor unions in newly reformed welfare states. The author, focusing on labor's political influence on pension reform in the United States and France, argues labor unions in France have much more direct influence on pension reform than in the United States.

Nationalism, public policy, and institutional development: Social security in Belgium

Article Abstract:

An attempt is made to explore the relationship between nationalism and public policy. The analysis of Social Security politics in contemporary Belgium provides ground to the claims that are formulated to focus on the link between sub-state nationalism and social policy.
