Conceiving human rights without ontology

Article Abstract:

Thomas Pogge argues about the responsibility and capacity to change the global institutional order in a way that deals more justly with those who live in poverty, in his book, 'World Poverty and Human Rights'. He concludes that the attempt to establish a single, universal criterion of justice, and to express it in the language of human rights, is undermined from within for as long as it fails to engage with ontological concern.

Paradoxical bedfellows: Nihilism and human rights

Article Abstract:

The existence of a manifest paradox contained within the doctrine of human rights is identified. The justification for human rights envisages a single, universal community of human beings, whereas the actual application typically testifies to the existence of two distinct communities of victims and perpetrators.
