Constitutionalism on trial in South Korea

Article Abstract:

South Korea's transition to democracy, expanding popular rule and deepening individual rights took place together, but Roh Moo Hyun's presidency had exposed rifts between majority rule and constitutionalism that the country's judiciary struggled to bridge. A political hybrid of reinvigorated class-consciousness and proud nationalism found remarkably fertile ground in post transition Korea.

Indonesia's quest for accountable governance

Article Abstract:

The positive political scene in Indonesia gave the Indonesians a reason to be proud about their achievements though they have suffered huge losses due to the tsunami tragedy. The country had held three major elections and produced a lawful government, which faces the challenge of securing regular governmental accountability.

"Business populism" in Thailand

Thaksin Shinawatra was reelected on 6th February 2005, thus becoming the first elected head of government in Thai history completing a four-year term. Thaksin's party 'Thais Love Thais' offers a coalition of populist rhetoric with policies that serve the interests of Thai business class.
