Crisis magazine: an African-American jewel

Article Abstract:

The prize winning essay of the Crisis 1994 W.E.B. Du Bois Essay Contest illustrates the pioneering role played by W.E.B. Du Bois in setting up the Crisis magazine in 1910 to uphold social justice in American society. The essay portrays how the segregation of African-Americans and abuses against them are boldly highlighted in the magazine, which provokes the African-American minority to actively participate in the struggle for equal rights in society.
