Dead on the beach

Article Abstract:

The incidents on the beaches of Gaza, where the explosions killed a family of Palestinians, have raised doubts on the President Mahmoud Abbas' initiative of late May 2006 to call a national referendum if national unity talks failed. International efforts are required to create and consolidate the basis on which the Palestinian leadership can re-direct and represent a Palestinian commitment to peace with Israel and the US and the European Union should develop a strategy that would give real incentives to Palestinians of all political persuasions to restore political unity in order to re-engage in peace.

Talk long, reflect little

Article Abstract:

The conflicts and crises of the Middle East are interlinked and hence the new British government should give much closer consideration to the link between the presence of its troops on foreign soil, where they might be seen as occupiers and acts of terror at home. The British Prime Minister Tony Blair's insistence that combating the spread of global terrorism is at the root of the Middle East's ills is by far the most serious error, which should be rectified.

Voting, but for what

Article Abstract:

The present political and economic situation in the Middle East and whether democracy attained through election, is the best viable solution for the region, are discussed. It is observed that for democracy to take root, Middle Eastern societies should be able to get on with brokering political deals amongst themselves, rather than responding to externally prioritized funding.
