Friends of the earth international: Negotiating a transnational identity

Article Abstract:

The relationships between majority (South) and minority (North) world environmental groups are assessed by focusing on one of the largest transnational environmental organizations, called Friends of the Earth International (FoEI), a federation of autonomous groups from 71 countries. It is found that FoEI offers the most inclusive organizational structure, in which northern and southern environmentalism interact and groups sought to re-examine their core principles.

Beyond borders: Transnational politics, social movements and modern environmentalisms

Article Abstract:

An understanding of the transnational political processes that affect the environmental movements is presented and it is argued that environmental movement is still at an early stage in relation to shaping global politics. The transnational politics of modern environmentalism takes place within and without social movement frames and, as such, can be understood simultaneously as politics of liberation and repression, emancipation and disciplined conditionally.

Green public spheres and the green governance state: The politics of emancipation and ecological conditionality

Article Abstract:

A global green public sphere and the global governance state intersect with the politics of environmentalism, which shows that the politics of green concern transmute into a myriad of different collective forms. Despite this diversity of responses found within and between environmental groups, it crosses boundaries in a positive way, thus revealing that environment can be used to support democracy or alternatively, to support authoritarianism.
