A notification dated May 6, 2003, issued by the State Bureau for Food and Drug Supervision and Control, Ministry of Health, and State Bureau of Chinese Traditional Medicine Administration outlines the required supervision and control over the use of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) prevention drugs and promotion of rational drug use. It distinguishes regulatory activities between prescription and nonprescription drugs, and empowers authorities to approve advertisements for SARS drugs before being aired or published.

Circular on work related to contagious atypical pneumonia patients after they have been cured and discharged from the hospital

Article Abstract:

A May 15, 2003 dated General Office of the Ministry of Health circular addressed to all provincial health departments and bureaus specifies hospitals to implement certain requirements regarding patients after their cure of severe acute respiratory syndrome and discharge from hospital. The patients should be discharged only after proper confirmation of their cure, discharged patients must be advised to rest and follow doctors' instructions and contact the hospital in case of recurring fever or for further chest X-rays.
