Simply gone: The disappeared--A new treaty

Article Abstract:

A new draft treaty regarding the duty to prosecute those involved in forced disappearances was approved for international law in September 2005 with the possibility of the UN General Assembly adopting it in 2006. However, the world's most powerful US government believes that the law authorizes culprits to disappear and argues that this will help to make the world safer.

Human rights and the United Nations: Acting on rights

Article Abstract:

The United Nations abolished the Commission on Human Rights due to its diminishing quality and professionalism and replaced it with new Human Rights Council. The Human Rights Council met for the first time on June 19, 2006 with a commitment to renew human rights amongst member states however it has to be seen whether the implementation of human rights standards improve.
