Economic benefits and support for membership in the E.U.: a cross-national analysis

Article Abstract:

Economic considerations influence public support within the twelve countries for the membership of the European Union (EU). People living in the countries that benefit more from the EU membership show higher levels of support for their country's integration with the EU. The study, based on the Eurobarometer polls for 1982, 1986, and 1990, also reveals a higher level of support from the educated and wealthy people. However, material aspects of the EU guide the value judgment of the citizens of the six new member states, while the reverse is true for the six original member states.

The changing political economy of inflation

Article Abstract:

This article evalutes the role of central banks in industrialized countries in lowering inflation rates. The authors suggest that neo-liberal macroeconomic trends of both Left and Right governments since the 1970s and 1980s have changed the control of interest rates by prioritizing price stability.
