Efforts unnerving to save California landmark

Article Abstract:

The NAACP is involved in the campaign to save the Negro Bar, located along the banks of the American River in Folsom, CA, from demolition. The bar is an important landmark for Afro-American culture because it was established in 1849, when the black population in the area grew because of the attraction of gold panning. The original Negro Bar consisted of a store and a hotel which have been targeted for demolition because the Folsom City Council has approved a plan to build a bridge which will effectively isolate and destroy the environs of the Negro Bar.
