Elections in India: Behind the congress comeback

Article Abstract:

The leaders of the opposition Indian National Congress (INC) and the public were convinced of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (BJP-NDA) victory in the April-May 2004 Indian parliamentary elections. The causes and political repercussions of the surprise victory of INC, which captured 145 (27 percent) of the 543 seats in parliament as against the BJP, which won 138 seats (25 percent), are discussed.

The crisis of Indian secularism

Article Abstract:

Concepts about Indian secularism of humanity and the equality present here inspite of religious and communal differences are presented. Congress's political dominance slipped in the late 1960s and with it India's secular principles began to be shattered.
