World religions and democracy: Hinduism and self-rule

Article Abstract:

Hinduism emphasizes on the importance of coming to know one's fullest potentialities that seems to be a promising resource for the democratic imagination. Hindus have endowed India with a liberal constitutional order, and state that no society can ever be so large as one, so there is no better counsel than this against the collective narcissism that is now emerging as a threat to democracy in India and the globe.

India's unlikely democracy: Civil society versus corruption

Article Abstract:

The relevant yardstick for a successful democracy is the ability to deepen it and in this regard India has an impressive record in making politics more inclusive. Thus, corruption is accepted as a necessary evil though the anticorruption campaigners have overcome formidable odds in redefining the role of the public in holding governments accountable.

The article describes about the Indian Supreme Courts working that has played a significant and pivotal role in sustaining liberal-democratic institutions and upholding the rule of law but its career is shadowed by irony and controversy leading to both positive and problematic implications for democracy.
