From the GATT to the WTO: the developing countries and the reform of the procedures for the settlement of international trade disputes

Article Abstract:

The participation of developing countries in the creation of effective and objective frameworks for the settlement of international trade disputes is examined. The creation of a dispute settlement mechanism is an important factor in instituting confidence and predictability in the multilateral trading system. This mechanism should be instituted since if entities involved in international trade do not have believe that international law can uphold their national and individual self-interests, they, in turn, may not honor their obligations.
