Fujimorism and Peru

Article Abstract:

Peru's economic reforms, under President Alberto Fujimori, are designed to serve the interests of capitalism, the military, and the technocrats. Under the policy, called Fujimorism, these three groups control the state and government machinery through a process of reprivatization. Although Fujimori was democratically elected President in 1990, he seized dictatorial powers in 1992 with the help of international and domestic business and financial organizations, and the military. Subsequent reforms eliminated any influence of the public, such as the working class, over the government.

The challenge of the "indigenous movement" in Latin America

Article Abstract:

The 'indigenous movement' is best described as an anxious recognition of the immediate political impact of the 'indigenous' people's actions and the conflicts, which the actions unleash and threaten to unleash in the rest of the population. This movement in Latin America has certain common implications where there is a common claim to identity and also a response to the discrimination, which prevents full assimilation into the national identity or dominant culture.
