German foreign policy and the shadow of the past

Article Abstract:

The authenticity of whether the recent German foreign policy indicates a departure from traditional post- world war II principles and a new, less-inhibited, assertive stand is studied in the context of its military engagements, its stand against the war in Iraq and the quest for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council. The findings point towards a Germany that is more interested in its domestic reforms than in international affairs though they may give an impression of having emerged from the shadow of its past.

Nationalism, indignation and China's Japan policy

Article Abstract:

The origin and consequences of anti-Japanese sentiment in China, caused due to Japanese atrocities during the Second World War and the perceived injustice of Japan's humiliating defeat of China in the Jiawu War, are studied. These sentiments are creating a very real possibility of conflict between the two countries at the dawn of the twenty first century and are also constraining China's elite as they seek to make their Japan policy.

Finnish neutrality policy during the cold war

Article Abstract:

Finland's choice of neutrality in its foreign policy during the cold war years and later in the twenty first century is closely examined. It is found that neutrality was not an end in itself but a definite way to ensure their national survival and to protect themselves from the destruction of war, which has served its purpose and in the present situation there is no continuity of the previous era.
