Article Abstract:

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) flowing from the Millennium Declaration consist of eight overarching aims coupled with targets such as reducing by half the proportion of people suffering from hunger, or reducing by two-thirds the mortality rate among children under five. The MDGs were to form a focus for international development cooperation, in the hope they would generate renewed momentum towards meeting many commitments.

Article Abstract:

Plans for an international organization to monitor environmental standards is expected to be discussed at the 2001 World Summit for Sustainable Development. The author believes that the global environment will continue to decline unless a single authority sets international environmental policy or current organizations agree to cooperate.
