Guaranteeing democracy: a review of the record

Article Abstract:

The international community has undertaken various actions to ensure the restoration of democratic governments that were threatened or overthrown by opposing forces during the post-Cold War era. Countries have continually fought for democracy by imposing economic sanctions, military actions and suspension of aid when democratically-elected officials were forcibly removed from office. This shows the international community's willingness to respond to democratic threats in light of the realization that all people have the right to constitutional democracy.

More liberal, preliberal, or postliberal?

Article Abstract:

Democracy will face unprecedented challenges in the future, particularly in established liberal democracies, though its general prospects are favorable. The areas of discontent include the overemphasis on individualism, voluntarism in political participation, territorial representation, nationalism and systemic inequalities. Postliberal democracy will seek to adjust democratic practices to the expanded scale of global communications.
