Holy terror: an act of divine duty

Article Abstract:

Terrorism in recent decades had ethnic or ideological motives but today almost a quarter of the 50 terrorist groups known to be active globally are motivated by religion. Using religion to justify violence seems to lead to higher levels of lethality. Religious terrorists hate the rest of society and this alienation from society enables them to act with more destructive violence than the secular terrorist. The ready availability of operational knowledge from mail-order publishers, bookstores and the Internet also makes the threat more lethal. Terrorists can only be countered by international means such as intelligence and treaties.

Rendezvous with reality

Article Abstract:

The European currency, the Euro, is a major economic and social policy effort, but it also carries a high political risk. The Euro's founders, Giscard D'Estaing and Helmut Schmidt, have already stated that the Euro needs a political framework. If Europe fails to come up with such a framework, a major change in government or majority could result in derailment.
