Iraq awaits

Article Abstract:

The United Nations will be choosing the successor to its present Secretary General Kofi Annan in late 2006, from a wide field of declared and undeclared candidates. The new Secretary-General would be saddled by the responsibility of overcoming the organization's trauma over its staff losses in Baghdad in 2003 and lead it to a more active political support for Iraqi's polite processes than Annan was latterly able, or willing, in order to play and help the coalition to disengage from Iraq by supporting a new politics of accommodation, aiming to avert civil war.
