Issac Don Levine: herald of free Russia

Article Abstract:

The life of Issac Don Levine, a journalist in Russia and America, and his works are discussed. Levine was born in Mozyr, Ukraine, in 1892 and emigrated to America in 1911 where he started his career as a free-lance journalist. He returned to Russia in 1919 and covered many political events till 1924 when he went back to America. He was an accurate analyst of political events and was able to impartially view the role of American institutions in Russia. He wrote the first biographies of Lenin and Stalin in English. Although his warnings went unheeded they could have avoided the disaster in Russia.

All possible outcomes are being explored. As many as 60 candidates, including Yeltsin, Zhirinovsky and Rutskoi are in the fray.

Free will and the genome project

Article Abstract:

The US Human Genome project has given rise to actions by legal-ethical groups to question the philosophical implications of the project. This relates to the concept of human responsibility and the issues of free will and determinism. Linking behavioral tendencies to genetics leads to questions about the control exerted by environmental factors. It is argued that the Human Genome Project poses no special problems for human freedom. The threat that this project has is not towards freedom but towards the Aristotelian motion.
